Asharoken Welcomes Back Fireworks

Personal fireworks are strictly prohibited at July 4 celebration.

Asharoken will welcome back their annual fireworks show on Wednesday, July 4. The fireworks will be launched from a barge on the sound side of Asharoken Avenue and will begin at approximately 9:20 p.m., weather permitting. The raindate is Thursday, July 5.

There is no parking on any Village street and there are no public parking facilities in the Village. Please make sure you and your guests park only on your private property. Due to excessive traffic congestion, for everyone's safety, all traffic and parking laws will be strictly enforced. Personal fireworks are strictly prohibited.

Bonfires will be permitted if weather conditions allow them to be lit safely. Bonfires should not be oversized and only wood materials should be burned. Check the Asharoken website for more details and last-minute updates through July 4.

On May 7, Aharoken's "Save the Fireworks" Committee Chairpersons Anna Pollaci and Carole Casamassima presented a $5,700 check to Mayor Patricia Irving on behalf of Asharoken's residents, neighbors and friends. The funds were raised from Asharoken's annual holiday party on Nov. 5. The check covers the total cost of the fireworks barge.

Asharoken officials said they are working with the NYS DEC and the US Fish and Wildlife Service to do what is necessary to protect the piping plover. A request for additional information from Mayor Patricia Irving on what specifically is being done to protect the plover nesting sites was unreturned.
