Week 2: Football Preview

Glenn and St. Anthony's open at home while Northport faces Friday night test.

Week 2 brings some real tough matchups.

Farrell @ St. Anthony’s (Friday 7 p.m.): St. Anthony’s had to last week when floods in Pennsylvania kept State College from travelling. So the Friday against CHSFL rival and Staten Island force Farrell (0-1). But Farrell is in flux with a new coach. Farrell gave up 472 yards in a 47-32 loss to Buffalo-St. Joe’s last week. Even with its own question mark at quarterback because of multiple injuries, St. Anthony’s has the depth and experience to roll.

Northport @ Sachem North (Friday, 7 p.m.): (0-1) found success in the second half of its . Fullback Ryan Kokell ran hard between the tackles and quarterback Sean Gilroy got in a rhythm. The fact is the Tigers played Sachem North (1-0) tough twice last season. But this Division I road game is no easy matchup for coach Kip Lukralle. Sachem beat Bay Shore, 27-13, behind four touchdowns from running back Dalton Crossan. Stopping that running game will be the key. Game Note: Patch will be .

Mount Sinai @ Glenn (Saturday, 1:30 p.m.): This is a strong early matchup in Division IV. twice a year ago, including the semifinals. Mount Sinai (1-0) opened 2011 by blowing out Bayport-Blue Point, 33-6. (1-0) downed Hampton Bays, 35-6, on the road. In both cases the quarterback was key. Austin Kay was a perfect 7-for-7 with two TDs for the Mustangs. Rich Czeczotka made his debut as Glenn’s quarterback a memorable one with three passing TDs and another rushing.
