Three Northport High School varsity teams were honored at Tuesday's Huntington Town Board meeting. The girls soccer team, girls cross country team, and boys cross country team all received official Town proclamations presented by Town Councilman Mark Cuthbertson.
Northport High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team: The team finished as League Champions, Suffolk Class AA champs, and Long Island Champions, and competed in the State Championships for the first time in 17 years.
Northport High School Girls Cross Country Team: The team won the overall Suffolk Team Crown, the Division 1 title of Division Championships at Sunken Meadow State Park. They also won the League for their sixth straight year and went on to place sixth at the New York State Championship.
Northport High School Boys Cross Country Team: Ten members of team were named All-County this season. The Northport boys team won the overall Suffolk team crown and Division 1 title in the Division Championships. They also achieved a Suffolk County record for a high school cross country team,arriving at the top of the list for best team in Suffolk county cross country history. They had an average team time of 16 minutes, 23 seconds, which is the fastest team average ever recorded by a Suffolk County team at the Sunken Meadow course.
"These teams brought great credit and pride to their school district and our town," said Cuthbertson.
