The wind howled off the Long Island Sound Sunday as blustery conditions turned the boaters' paradise into a playland for adventure seekers.
There were no yachts or sailboats visible, but an armada of windsurfers, kiteboarders and even paddleboarders took to the choppy waves, using Crab Meadow Beach in Northport as a launching point.
Hurricane Sandy may not make landfall in New York, but the effects of the Atlantic storm were already being felt along the Sound, from extreme high tides to rough seas. In other words, perfect conditions to catch some air.
