Northport Woman Honored with Special Award

60-year-old is applauded for outstanding performance in 50K race.

Kathy Martin of Northport was honored with a special award at a recent meeting of the the Greater Long Island Running Club.

Martin, 60, was honored by Suffolk County Legislator William Spencer  in recognition of Kathy’s performance at the Caumsett 50 Kilometer USATF National Championship Run back in March.

At age 60, the long-time Northport resident was the 4th woman overall and second masters woman, finishing in 3:58:37 and, along the way, set National records at the 20 Kilometer, 25 Kilometer and 30 Kilometer distances.

“We congratulate Kathy for her incredible accomplishments, and thank Dr. Spencer and the Suffolk County Legislature for recognizing one of Long Island’s most accomplished athletes,” said club Vice President Carl Grossbard, who serves as the Director of the Caumsett Run. “Dr. Spencer was at the Caumsett Run, so he knows first hand what a great athlete Kathy is!”

The meeting was held in the auditorium of the Plainview - Old Bethpage Public Library, with an audience of about 150 club members and their guests braving the major wind and rain storm that visited Long Island that evening to attend and to honor Kathy.
