Northport Soccer Falls at States

Tigers girls soccer runs ends with 1-0 state Class AA semifinal loss to Washingtonville Saturday.

The 2012 Northport girls soccer team now belongs to history.

Playing in the state Final Four for the first time since 1996, the Tigers seemingly did everything they needed to keep their season alive one more day.

But Section IX champ Washingtonville remained perfect with a timely first-half goal by Meghan Haslett as the Wizards held on for a 1-0 win, The Times Herald-Record reported.

Northport (17-2-2) reached the state Class AA semifinals with an impressive 3-1 win over Nassau champ Massapequa Tuesday.

Defense was the key to its run of four playoff wins in a five-day stretch.

And the Tigers allowed just one shot on goal against Washingtonville, according to Newsday. But that shot gave the Wizards (19-0) the lead just 13:28 into the game.

Northport took 14 shots on goal, but none found the back of the net.
