Redemption. The word best describes the Suffolk Class A girls lacrosse championship game Thursday at Dowling College (Shirley campus) between the top seeded Tigers and the No. 2 Bay Shore Marauders.
Last year it was Northport, with 10 county titles and defending-champs, that was dethroned by Bay Shore 13-12 to capture only the Marauders second title in school history.
But the Tigers edged the Marauders during the regular season 16-9 setting the table for what should be a fantastic county championship game.
The Tigers enter the game featuring two of Suffolk's top three goal scorers in senior, and Florida bound, Shannon Gilroy (91 goals, leads county) and sophomore Cortney Fortunato (69 goals, third) along with an all star supporting cast of girls who’ve committed to numerous division I colleges already.
The Marauders are a bit younger than the Tigers but certainly have the fire power to repeat as county champs. They are led by junior Caroline deLyra who has verbally committed to USC and freshman Kyra Harney who scored 4 goals against Northport in this season’s loss but both were key components in bringing Bay Shore the County title last year.
Today’s game should be quite the contest and will begin at 3 p.m. with an admittance fee of $6. Click here for directions.
