It's not the Daytona 500, but East Northport native Steve Park did blaze his way to victory at Daytona International Speedway on Tuesday.
Park, a NASCAR veteran, won the UNOH Battle At The Beach race in Daytona, taking the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race, a 150-lap, 60-mile sprint in a 33-car field.
This was Park's first Daytona victory, according to The Daytona Beach News-Journal. He made 12 Cup Series starts at the speedway, but never emerged victorious. Until now.
“It's great,” Park told the News-Journal. “I raced here many times and never came out with a win. I'm so happy to walk out of Daytona with a trophy."
Park hadn't completed a race since 2010. He is a 1985 graduate of Northport High School.
