Community Corner

Community Update

Today was the Northport district wide Music and Arts Festival. We went to see our first grade children's artwork displayed in this community event in beautiful downtown Northport Village. After we watched our sister perform the closing number with the Npt High School orchestra we thought it would be nice to get some brunch at our very favorite place to eat down there. Tim's Shipwreck Diner. it was 2pm. we knew they were only open until 3pm. (which in itself is crazy.) Just enough time! So we proceeded down the block on foot among the hundreds of people with small school aged children who were there for the days festivities. the front door was wide open, the sign on the door said "open" so we walked in. There were several tables of people still eating. Plenty open. Immediately the waitress at the front said "oh we might be closed, or we may have run out of food, i don't know". So being unclear as to the situation my husband simply asked "well, are you open or closed? the doors wide open. Sign says 3pm no?" just as soon as he said that the owner Tim Hess, son of the famed local hero and upstanding community member, and former owner of the original OTTO'S Shipwreck Diner (when it was a real DINER that served food and coffee till well past midnight) shouts out very loudly in front of my 6 and 3 year old daughters "WE ARE CLOSED! WHAT WE CAN'T BE F@*CKING CLOSED WITH THE DOOR OPEN?!!" Now we immediately turn on our heels and leave because no one curses in front of my children EVER. We have been eating at that place all our lives. We were born and raised in Northport, went to Northport schools. Both I and my husband displayed our artwork at that same Music and Arts Festival many years ago. Our 4 children attend Northport schools as well. We own an upstanding business right down the road from this man as well. We are active members of the community, participate in events such as East Northport Day. Donate to the PTA fundraisers. Host community events. WE WOULD NEVER EVER TREAT ANYONE WHO CAME IN OUR BUSINESS TO SPEND MONEY THE WAY HE TREATED US TODAY. As if this heartbreaking incident wasn't enough, and as if Tim Hess had not already spit on the core of this community by cursing in front of small school aged children during a district wide event, he THEN proceeds to call us, ON A SUNDAY to scream and yell like a child because we had the gall to actually say something on our own private community page about or horrendous experience today. He proceeded to call my husband a mirage of insults and slander, including the phrase "you look like you don't need anymore food because you so FAT" and i QUOTE! What kind of man takes the time to look up our phone number just to make a bad situation WORSE! Needless to say we will never be patronizing this once lovely, quaint and OPEN eatery. According to this most unprofessional "owner" we don't need any more food. We are apparently now "banned for life". LOL. its that a hoot. If you have small children or are easily offended by foul language and unreliable hours and or expect them to actually have FOOD during their slim business hours DO NOT GO TO TIM'S SHIPWRECK DINER.
