School Referendum Passes

Northport Schools get backing from community to make capital improvements.

Voters came out and overwhelmingly passed a pair of Northport-East Northport School District capital improvement propositions Wednesday.

The district asked to make capital improvements at three schools with existing funds and to establish a second capital reserve fund for ongoing maintenance.

The first proposition called for refurbishment of auditoriums at Northport and East Northport middle schools, bathroom renovations at Northport Middle and HVAC upgrades at Dickinson Avenue School. Voters passed it 1,097-158, according to the district.

The second proposition established a Captial Reserve II Fund of up to $12 million for ongoing maintenence issues. It passed, 1,012-211.
