Northport-East Northport School District

2013-2014 Budget: $156,596,051
Tax Levy Increase
: 1.98 percent
Budget-to-Budget Increase: 1.72 percent

Budget Highlights:

  • Maintenance of low class sizes
  • Enhancements to Academic Intervention Services (AIS) program
  • Security upgrades
  • Capital improvements to all 10 district buildings

Board seats: Three seats on the Board of Education are up for grabs. Incumbents Andrew Rapiejko, Lori McCue and Julia Binger are running unopposed for three year terms.

Where to vote: Voting will take place at Fifth Avenue Elementary, Dickinson Avenue Elementary and William J. Brosnan schools between to 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, see the school district website.

Elwood School District

2013-2014 Budget: $57,035,292
Tax Levy Increase: 3.18 percent
Budget-to-Budget Increase: 4.42 percent

Budget Highlights:
  • Lower class size at the elementary level
  • New courses and electives at the High School 
  • Maintain all current teaching and support positions 
  • Increase EMS Librarian to full-time 
  • Reduced/redesigned the High School Alternative Education Program 
  • Reallocation of funds from Director of Athletics, Health, Physical Education and Recreation position to a full time Assistant Principal at the High School 
  • Increase .75 Asst. Superintendent of Curriculum to full time 
  • Maintain 2.0 district-wide administrative positions supporting K-12 curriculum and instruction program 
  • Increase/redesign of Security Staff
Board seats: One seat on the Board of Education is up for grabs. Incumbent Andrew Kaplan is running unopposed for a three year term.
