The Northport-East Northport Gifted & Talented Parent’s Association (GTPA) hosted its 13th Annual Invention Convention in February at the William J. Brosnan Building Cafeteria.
The Invention Convention was open to all district children currently enrolled in grades K-5. Over 50 children submitted inventions and proudly displayed their work to a packed room.
For the first time, the Invention Convention featured a panel including members of the school administration. Each inventor had the opportunity to present his or her invention to the panel.
Members of the panel were: Northport-East Northport Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Marylou McDermott, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Administration, Matt Nelson, District Coordinator of Reading & AIS, Tara Gaiss, Board of Education Trustee, Lori McQue and the district’s six elementary school building principals: Barbara Falotico (Bellerose Ave School), Patricia Essenfeld (Dickinson Ave School), Thomas Harrison (Fifth Ave School), Michael L. Genovese (Norwood Ave School), Sabina Larkin (Ocean Ave School), Jeffrey Haubrich (Pulaski Road School)
Student inventions included “The Magnet Tater,” “Super Shade,” “Magic Fingers Backpack,” and the “Pet Cleaner-Upper,” just to name a few. All inventors received a “Patent Certificate” from the Superintendent and a participation ribbon from their respective school principal.
