Northport-East Northport, Elwood Schools Closed Wednesday

The entire Long Island and New York City area is expected to be hit with between 8 and 12 inches of snow.

The Northport-East Northport and Elwood School Districts announced that their buildings will be closed Wednesday in anticipation of continued inclement weather.

All after-school and evening activities are also canceled.

About 4-inches of snow have fallen in Northport as of 7:40 p.m. Tuesday and more powder is expected to accumulate overnight and into Wednesday morning.

The entire Long Island and New York City area is expected to be hit with between 8- and 12-inches of snow, according to Joey Picca, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, with snow falling at a rate of one to two inches per hour into the late evening on Tuesday.

Temperatures are expected to continue to slowly decrease Tuesday evening across New York City and Long Island, hovering in the mid to upper teens and dropping throughout the evening.

The wind chill at around 10 p.m. is expected to make it feel as thought temps are hovering around zero, and falling to subzero overnight.
