Summer School Update

The number of students identified for summer school has risen to 1200. Last year 400 students attended summer school out of approximately 800 who were identified. Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Matt Nelson noted at a recent Board meeting that the increase is due to more stringent cut scores, and said he would expect the actual number of those attending to be around 600.

Nelson said the district will be using a program called CompassLearning Odyssey, which allows teachers to create individual lesson plans geared to meet each student's needs. "We want to find out where they are and help them from there," he said.
