Northport, Elwood School Budgets Pass

Northport

Northport voters approved a $159 million budget on Tuesday for the 2014-15 school year.

With a final tally of 2,426 to 1,131 in favor, residents within the Northport-East Northport School District can expect to see a 1.99  percent increase in their collective tax levy in the following year. The budget falls within the tax levy capital limit.

Voters also approved by a vote of 2,932 to 609 a proposition to spend up to $650,000 from the capital reserve fund to upgrade the fire alarm systems at each of the district's elementary schools.

Three school board candidates won seats: Jennifer Thompson received 2,079 votes, Donna McNaughton received 2,017 and Regina Pisacani received 2,075.

Elwood

Elwood voters approved a $59 million budget on Tuesday for the 2014-15 school year.

With a final tally of 891 to 345 in favor, residents within the Elwood School District can expect to see a 1.41 percent increase in their collective tax levy in the following year. The budget falls within the tax levy capital limit.  

In this by-seat school board election, Michael LaMena received 876 votes. Julia Fried received 909 votes. Both ran unopposed.
