Northport BOE's Reduced Tax Levy Enough of a Compromise? [Poll]
1.68 percent levy agreed upon at Monday meeting is up for another public hearing in May.
The Northport Board of Education voted 8-1 to approve a $153.9 million budget for 2012-2013 which reflects a 1.83 percent budget-to-budget increase over last year with a tax levy of 1.68 percent. Trustee Joe Sabia, who had advocated throughout the entire budget process for a zero percent increase, cast the dissenting vote.
The new number was achieved through use of an additional $225,000 in reserves plus a $75,000 reduction in expenditures which Superintendent McDermott will recommend to the Board.
BOE Members shaved the number from an original in response to comments from the public. Do you think that 1.68 is enough of a compromise? Vote in our poll and tell us in the comment section what you think should be scrapped or saved.
