Harley Ave. Read-a-Thon Benefits Cancer Research

Harley Avenue students participated after school hours to raise money for St. Jude's.

The Harley Avenue Primary School community united for the second annual Read-a-Thon held after school hours.

The event, completely organized and run by Harley staff volunteers, raised money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to help in the fight against pediatric cancer.

During the Read-a-Thon, Harley staff members were stationed at centers throughout the school to read to children. Students rotated to three different areas, where they could hear their favorite stories for one hour. They also had an opportunity to enter a raffle, through which they could win a stack of books hand selected by the teachers of Harley Avenue.

To attend the Read-a-Thon, families were asked to donate five dollars. In addition, the school raised money through a “wear red” day, where faculty and students were invited to wear red for a donation of only a dollar. Teachers and other staff members also greatly contributed to the cause by paying $20 for the privilege of wearing jeans to school one day.

In total, the Harley Avenue community raised $1,896 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Thank you to all who participated and donated to this worthy cause.
