Harley Avenue Principal Dies

Maryann Llewllyn passed away on Thursday.

Maryann Llewellyn, Principal of Harley Avenue Primary School in Elwood, passed away on Thursday after suffering a heart attack.

Llewllyn had a 45 year career in education. She held positions as Superintendent/Principal in East Quogue, Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction for Professional Development for both Nassau and Suffolk BOCES, and Deputy Superintendent for the Uniondale School District. She also worked in the Education Department at Hofstra University as a liaison for grants and funding.

"Education has lost a champion, and Elwood Schools has lost a member of our family and a mentor to the entire school community," said Elwood Board of Education Vice President Dan Ciccone. "Maryann Llewellyn was an amazing woman who will be sorely missed. She left a mark on Elwood that will last for generations of Students to come."

The wake will be held Sunday at Beney Funeral Home, 79 Berry Hill Road, Syosset (516) 921-2888, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Monday at St. Edward Confessor Church, 205 Jackson Avenue, Syosset (516) 921-8030. The Burial is at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchoque immediately following the funeral mass.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in loving memory of Maryann to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or any organization to benefit a child or to the Syosset Scholarship Fund Inc.
