Glenn Girls Lax Defeated By Bayport-Blue Point

Phantoms 22-9 victory puts them in Class "C" title game next Tuesday against Mt. Sinai.

The Bayport-Blue Point girls lacrosse team opened up an early six goal lead en route to a dominating 22-9 victory over John Glenn High School Tuesday in a Class "C" playoff game.

The Phantoms will now face top-seed Mt. Sinai next Tuesday in the Class "C" title game set for 8 p.m. at the Dowling Sports Complex in Shirley.

The game was one-sided from the start as Bayport-Blue Point stormed out to a 7-1 lead five minutes into the first half.

“They knew the offenses they needed to run, they knew the defenses they needed to work on and they just put it all on the field,” Bayport-Blue Point head coach Ryan Gick said of his team’s performance.

According to Gick, Bayport’s previous meeting with John Glenn a week ago allowed his team to get a feel for Glenn and find out how they could operate against them.

Bayport’s Loren Generi was the game's leading scorer with seven goals and one assist. Courtney Dooley chipped in with four goals and three assists.

For John Glenn, Mackenzie Sivilli lead the way with two goals and three assists, Maddlyn Sivilli had four goals and Monika Sivilli chipped in with two goals and an assist.

After Generi scored to give Bayport a 13-3 lead, John Glenn called a timeout in an attempt to settle the team and try and stop the Phantoms momentum. Glenn scored two quick goals following the timeout to make it 13-5 near the end of the first half. But goals by Fiona Stickney and Genevieve Stickney brought the lead back to double digits.

For Gick, while he enjoys a victory like this, he remains focused on the goal of winning a county title.

“I don’t think the pressure was on us, it’s just a matter of going out and doing what we needed to do to get back to the counties this year as we did last year,” Gick said. “And this time the goal is to win it.”
