Forum To Focus On School Security Challenges

Following the Newtown shooting, experts gather to discuss what can be done to protect area students.

More than 70 Long Island school administrators across Suffolk and Nassau counties will gather Wednesday in Melville to discuss safety and security issues after the recent Sandy Hook Elementary School Shootings.

Educators and security experts will come together for "Transforming Our Schools, Violence Prevention and Crisis Planning" forum to be held at the Hilton Long Island.

Michael Balboni, former head of the Homeland Security Department for New York State, will be the keynote speaker and lead an open panel discussion between school administrators and security experts on issues surrounding security in schools today. Topics will include school violence prevention, crisis planning, early warning sign detection, mental health issues, and more.

Wednesday's panel will feature: Tom Rogers, superintendent of Nassau BOCES; Alan Groveman; superintendent of Connetquot Central School District; David Antar, president of A+ Security and Technology Solutions; and Don Flynn, a retired NYPD officer and school safety and security expert.

The panel moderator will be Mike Richez of A+ Security and Technology Solutions, who is also a former Long Beach High School administrator.

We're curious, what questions do you have for leading school administrators and security experts on the safety of Long Island's schools?
