Elwood Students Experience Native American Culture

Students at Harley Avenue Primary and James H. Boyd Intermediate schools in the Elwood Union Free School District got a taste of Native American culture though a the program, "Journeys into American Indian Territory," an interactive educational program.

During the program, the students had the opportunity to get a glimpse of what life was like for a child of the Plains tribe. The program also examined how the tribes’ roles were defined and how they respected the animals and land around them.

Students explored a variety of shelters, such as the traditional longhouse, as well as a museum of authentic artifacts including musical instruments, utensils and Native American toys. Also on display were animal cloths and skins used for protection from the elements.
