Elwood Students Collect Mittens, Gloves for Local Shelters

Elwood students did something different with a Christmas tree over the holidays.

During the month of December, students throughout the district created a mitten tree drive, sponsored by Elwood Middle School’s student council. The students decorated a tree with donated mittens, gloves, hats and scarves. This year, the initiative was expanded to include clothing items for infants. The collections were then donated to local shelters.

“It is important to give back,” said eighth-grade student council president Katie
Kaplan. “These are the basics that we take for granted. There are people who don’t have these things at all.”
