Elwood Schools Receive $60,000 from Booster Organization

Grants will go toward programs not financed by the school district budget.

Elwood School District teachers and administrators recently received over $60,000 in grants from the Elwood Education Endowment, a booster organization supported by local businesses and community members.

The fourteen grants were divided between the district's four schools as follows: 

Harley Avenue Primary

  • 10 document cameras for 1st and 2nd grade classrooms
  • 6 iPads to help enforce the primary curriculum for AIS, ESL and special education students
  • leveled social studies non-fiction libraries
  • photographic accessories which will enhance the digital images taken of each student's artwork.
James H. Boyd Intermediate
  • an iPad Learning System consisting of 10 iPads
  • a Think-Along library that will be utilized as an intervention and supplement for struggling readers
  • leveled social studies and science non-fiction libraries
  • Hot Dots, an interactive science program for ESL students.
Elwood Middle School
  • 15 Chromebooks for the 6th grade classrooms
  • an extensive collection for the Library Media Center
  • tools and materials for an 8th grade linoleum block printing art project
  • tools and materials for a CO2 dragster project that will be part of the 7th grade technology class curriculum
  • photographic accessories which will enhance the digital images included in each art students' digital portfolios.
Elwood-John Glenn High School
  • a mobile Chromebook lab that will include 32 Chromebooks and 2 printers
  • Texas Instrument handheld devices for JGHS math students
  • photographic accessories which will enhance the digital images included in each art students' digital portfolios
The Elwood Education Endowment, founded in 2003, is dedicated to enriching the educational opportunities of students attending the Elwood School District by providing learning opportunities beyond the core curriculum and financing programs not covered by the school district budget.  

A private not-for-profit, the EEE solicits the support of local businesses, community members and alumni to help finance a broad range of programs that would be available to students of all academic abilities.
