Board to Vote on BOCES Budget

7 p.m. Northport BOE meeting at Brosnan Building Tuesday.

The Northport-East Northport Board of Education will vote on the 2013-2014 tentative BOCES budget Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Bronsan Building.

$14,759,448 is proposed for the total administrative and capital budget. A full breakdown is attached as a PDF.

The cost for the Western Suffolk BOCES programs is shared between 18 individual school districts, based upon their participation. Payment for the budget is charged to all districts based on their three-year Resident Weighted Average Daily Attendance in comparison to its percentage of the total RWADA of all component districts.

BOCES provides only those programs or services which are requested by two or more school districts and approved by the Commissioner of Education.

Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) was established, by the NYS Legislature in 1948, to provide to local school districts those services which, from an educational or financial point of view, were not feasible for the local school districts to operate.

The Second Supervisory District, which makes up Western Suffolk BOCES, is comprised of 18 local school districts from the towns of Babylon, Huntington and Smithtown.

The BOE will also vote on three nominations to fill three candidates to fill three year terms on the Western Suffolk BOCES board:

Mildred Browne (Wyandanch UFSD)
Ilene Herz (Half Hollow Hills CSD)
Maryann Zumpano (Smithtown CSD)

The full agenda for the Tuesday meeting is available at Board Docs.
