Agenda: Aug. 27 Northport School Board Meeting

BOE meets in William Brosnan Building at 7:30 p.m.

The Northport-East Northport Board of Education will meet on Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

The board will discuss contracts service agreements for special education, resolutions for rescinded and modified policies, among other things. The board will also discuss a recommendation to authorize the board president to execute an agreement between the School District and Youth Directions and Alternatives C.Y.A., Inc. in the amount of $32,000.00 for the 2012-2013 school year ($4,000.00 for general services as stated in the contract, and $28,000.00 for the employment of a full time street worker).

In the correspondence portion of the meeting, the board will discuss a letter from the parents of over 20 children once served by the H Bus to East Northport Middle School imploring BOE President Stephen Waldenberg imploring him to reinstate the route.

"We cannot help but reiterate that there was a middle school child who was walking home from school and he was hit and killed by a mini school bus," the letter reads."

The bus stop was rescinded when a study conducted on June 18 assigned the location 18 out of a requisite 21 points to qualify as a child safety issue. The full letter is attached as a PDF.

Also in the correspondence portion is an email from Denise Summers Mumm, a former UTNEN Board of Education Trustee and United Taxpayers of Northport East Northport member, who questions the appropriateness of salary raises given to two administrative employees. She said in her letter that FOIL request for the employees' new salaries has not yet been answered. Her email is attached as a PDF.

The next scheduled Northport BOE meeting is Monday, Sept. 10.
