Asharoken's Duck Island Mansion Sells for $7 Million

A London business executive, with local roots, purchased the peninsula property.

The 21.9-acre peninsula on Asharoken’s Duck Island was recently sold for $7 million, according to a Newsday report

John Rittenhouse, chief executive of EDF Trading, went into contract in August to buy Duck Island Way, the peninsula extending into Northport Harbor. The property first came onto the market in 2011 for $12 million.

Rittenhouse, 55, currently lives in London but grew up in Asharoken; his father the former police commissioner and his mother a former zoning board member.

The 11-bed, 6.5-bath Swedish Manor style estate dates back to the 1920s and features custom millwork throughout. An additional guest cottage and barn offers 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and holds 7 cars. The property also sports over 4,000 feet of beachfront, a baseball field, private tennis court access, a pond and a helicopter-landing pad.
