An $8 million property in Asharoken has found a buyer.
According to Newsday, John Rittenhouse, chief executive of EDF Trading, is under contract to buy Duck Island Way, a 21.9 acre peninsula extending into Northport Harbor.
Rittenhouse, 55, currently lives in London but grew up in Asharoken; his father the former police commissioner and his mother a former zoning board member. He told Newsday he is "going back to his roots" and doesn't plan on subdividing the property.
The 11-bed, 6.5-bath Swedish Manor style estate dates back to the 1920s and features custom mill work throughout. An additional guest cottage and barn offers 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and holds 7 cars. The property also sports over 4,000 feet of beachfront, a baseball field, private tennis court access, a pond, and a helicopter landing pad.
It has been in the same family for over 80 years.
Listing Agent Jacqueline Lewisy of Signature Premier Properties said the sale may set a record for the area.
