Village Terminates Sandy Debris Pickup

Residents should now follow normal yard waste pickup guidelines.

Six months after Hurricane Sandy, Mayor George Doll announced Tuesday that the village highway department will stop picking up debris from the storm. The last pickup was made on Tuesday, April 30.

"We were getting reimbursed from FEMA for the pickups and I'm sorry to say that people doing normal yard clean up were throwing their bushes out in the street," said Doll. "We just can't keep picking that stuff up."

Residents should now follow normal yard waste pickup guidelines. Sticks and branches should be tied and bundled into four foot lengths weighing less than 50 pounds.

The village picked up and disposed of a staggering 2,500 tons of Sandy debris overall.
