Video: Northport Board Accepts Voting Tallies

Budget and capital proposition approved. One incumbent and three new trustees elected.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. a crowd gathered in the Brosnan building to await the results of the Northport-East Northport School District budget, capital improvement and candidate votes.

As Board attorney John Gross read the the crowd broke out in applause. The budget was approved, 3,114 to 2,348, and the proposition allowing for up to $900,000 to be spent on capital improvements at the middle schools and the administration building was approved, 3,753 to 1,442. 

Gross then read the candidate tallies in the order that they appeared on the ballot. They were: Joe Sabia, 3,307; Jennifer Thompson, 2,866; Karen Wills, 2,229; Joe Gannon, 2,445; Kristen Gavin, 2,737; Tammie Topel, 2,847.

Following the reading of the candidate tallies, applause was led by current board vice president and unsuccessful candidate Karen Wills as Board President Stephen Waldenburg congratulated the winners. 

As the fourth-place vote getter, candidate Kristen Gavin will fill the one-year term vacated by Tim Madden when he resigned earlier in the school year. She was immediately and was sworn in by John Gross and joined the board to accept the voting returns, which they did unanimously.
