Whether it’s the price of gas or a loaf of bread, Suffolk County investigators are on the lookout for price gouging.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone issued a stern warning to gougers:
“I want to make it clear to people who think they will take advantage of this crisis situation and take advantage of people who need help that this will not be tolerated,” Bellone said. “Investigators from our consumer affairs department will be following up on any and all complaints. We received a report of one 7-Eleven charging $10 for a loaf of bread. This is unacceptable. The prices you were charging prior to the storm should be the prices you are charging now.”
Report gouging to Consumer Affairs at 800-909-5423.
It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
