Suffolk Inventors and Entrepreneurs Club Meets Tuesday

The club offers would-be and existing entrepreneurs the chance to learn about starting and growing a business.

The Suffolk Inventors and Entrepreneurs Club meets Tuesday, from 7-9 p.m. at the H. Lee Dennison Building in Hauppauge.

Tuesday's meeting will include volunteers from SCORE, the Service Corps of Retired Executives, to guide and counsel new entrepreneurs. Celebrating 50 years, SCORE is a free service and resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Many local entrepreneurs are already familiar with SCORE. In 2013, 30 Long Island SCORE volunteers provided an estimated 900 mentoring sessions, which resulted in almost 300 new businesses starting and 130  existing entrepreneurs growing their business, Suffolk County officials said.

“SCORE’s mission, like that of the Inventors and Entrepreneurs Club, is to provide the expertise needed to bring good ideas to the marketplace,” County Executive Steve Bellone said.

The Inventors and Entrepreneurs Club President Brian Fried noted that SCORE speakers help entrepreneurs "get new businesses off the ground correctly and to accelerate existing businesses working to get to the next level.”

“Inventors who have questions about getting started should take advantage of this free service,” he added.

At the club's monthly meetings, attendees have the chance to introduce themselves and their invention or business idea, listen to a speaker and also network.

There is no charge and no registration is required to attend the meetings. A valid ID is needed at the door.  For more information, call (631) 853-4805 or e-mail Lisa.Broughton@suffolkcountyny.gov.
