Poll: Cuomo Maintains Strong Lead Over Astorino
The poll was conducted prior to the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Incumbent Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo continues to hold a strong, 35-point lead over Republican gubernatorial challenger Rob Astorino, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.
Cuomo leads Astorino, the Westchester County Executive, 59 percent to 24 percent among New York registered voters. The poll by the Journal, WNBC-TV and Marist College surveyed 833 voters - 673 registered - between June 23 and July 1. Third-party candidate Howie Hawkins received 6 percent, and the poll's overall margin of error is 3.8 percent.
Reporter Erica Orden writes that Astorino is even struggling to gain traction among voters who say taxes and/or the broken government are main issues.
"Those are the folks Astorino is trying to build his campaign around, and he's not getting even those core voters at this point," Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, told the WSJ. "When a challenger is running against an incumbent, looking for change is how you build your case."
