NRA to Make Announcement Friday; What Do You Want to Hear From Them?

Group issues statement about preventing future tragedies after shooting in Connecticut.

After days of silence, the National Rifle Association, headquartered in Fairfax, VA, has released a statement on the tragic shooting in Newtown, CT, saying it will make "meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again" and pledged to make an announcement on Friday.

In the release, the organization begins to explain its silence, saying: "Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting."The organization announced it will hold a press conference Friday in Washington, D.C.

More details on Friday's press conference will be released when timing is deemed "appropriate," according to the statement.

In the interim, we want to know, what do you hope the NRA does in response to the Newtown tragedy?

Look at 9/11/2001, thousands died , Not a single shot fired ! , Look at the Oklahoma Bombing, men , woman and children died , Not a single shot fired ! When their is a will their is a way ! Their is a lot of sick people out their who are retards and need help, Don't look at the tool used , look at your self in the mirror and wonder if being politically correct is correct . Don't waste money trying to fight the NRA and our Constitution and all the gun lovers, do what we did after 9/11 Become One America and solve the problem . Get a Guard trained in terrorist attacks and put one in every school just like our air Marshal's . Metal Detector's , Double doors with buzz in and video cameras .. Don't waste the money fighting each other ! put to good use now before it happens again. Get the mentally sick help .. Focus on the problem not the tool or the party now is the time to get together cross the isle and fix this as a true American Team .... God bless

I've walked though the hallways at Northport High School and through metal detectors at Roosevelt High School. One was not safer than the other.

Would like to hear them say they support renewing the "Assault" weapons bill that includes the limit on magizine capacity. That would give a victim time to react during a reload! No civilian can give a good reason to have in their possession an Assault weapon. We should continue to have any other weapon if we so choose!!! Even game hunters are suppose to use "single action" weapons according to their own rules..

I agree, I'd like to hear them support the assault weapons ban.

And a limited supply of ammunition.

It is time for the NRA members to greet the 21st century. There is just no need for people to have assault weapons in their homes, ever.

Putting armed guards in schools is not a solution. More weapons? Are you kidding me? Metal detectors, videos and buzz-in doors would not have stopped Lanza from killing those 27 victims; he busted a window to gain access to the building. Nobody except law enforcement and military personnel needs to carry assault weapons.
