Notebook: Trash Pickup Pushed Back

Trash pickup is pushed back a day throughout this week because of Memorial Day. Bottles and cans recycling will be picked up in all areas on Thursday.

No yardwaste collection is scheduled this week. Yardwaste will be collected during the week of June 2. For additional information please visit the Trash Pickup & Recycling Schedule.

Parade Set for Monday
The parade steps off from the Big H center at 11:30 a.m., proceeding north to Main Street. The march is hosted by Nathan Hale VFW Post 1469.

Beach Cleanup Volunteers Wanted
Town Councilwoman Susan A. Berland, Village of Northport Mayor George Doll and Village of Northport Trustee Tom Kehoe are leading volunteers Saturday for the 8th annual Clean Beaches Day.

Town Wins 2 Financial Practices Awards
The Town of Huntington’s financial practices have received two awards from the national organization representing government finance professionals.

For the 13th consecutive year, the Town received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, the highest award issued by the Government Finance Officers Association for governmental accounting and financial reporting. The award was based on the GFOA’s analysis of the Town’s comprehensive financial report (CAFR) for the year ending Dec. 31, 2011.

The other award, which the Town received for the second time, was the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, which the GFOA considers its highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. The award is for the presentation of the 2013 town budget.

Beach Permits on Sale
Seasonal beach parking permits, available to residents only, went on sale at Centerport, Crab Meadow, and West Neck beaches Saturday. Purchasers must present a valid vehicle registration and driver’s license and the permit must be affixed on the right side vehicle window by the attendant at purchase. Seasonal permits cost $35 and are nontransferable.

Last Day for Tax Payments
May 31 is the last day for second-half tax payments.

Tax bills are issued the second week of December each year. First half taxes are due by January 10th. Senior citizens receiving the Enhanced STAR  and/or  The Senior Low Income Exemption have until June 5 to make second half payment for the 2012-2013 tax year.
