Northport Public Hearing on Bamboo Today

Residents can voice their thoughts on the matters at Village Hall.

Public hearings will be held today at 6 p.m. to discuss Northport Village’s proposed laws on bamboo control and telecommunications systems.

The bamboo controls in the village aim to protect private property from the damaging spread of certain bamboo grasses and protect indigenous plant materials from the spread of running bamboo. The law is similar to that, which was passed in Huntington.

If passed, running bamboo will be prohibited within the Village of Northport. If a resident is found in violation of the local law, he or she could be fined up to $1,000.

The proposed telecommunications law would prohibit any person from constructing or operating a telecommunications system without having been issued a right-of-way use license by the board of trustees.
