“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” will be filmed in part at Bethpage and will need thousands of local extras. In the process, Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office says, the Spider-Man sequel will be the largest movie production to be filmed in New York and could result in 3,500 jobs and the casting of 11,000 extras. The production will include massive sets to be constructed at three facilities in Long Island and Brooklyn and generate millions of dollars in revenue to the local economy.

The Smithtown Central School District released information on further possible cuts to eliminate the more than $4 million deficit it's facing in the 2013-14 school year. Cuts could include reducing co-curriculiar activities in half, eliminating late buses, letting go of three full-time librarians, and eliminating middle school sports, the theatrical program, fifth grade band and orchestra, and electives such as business olympics, DECA, robotics and more.

Almost five months after Hurricane Sandy damaged the  Charles J. McCowan Marina (Lindy Docks) the Village of Lindenhurst plans to reopen them this weekend. The marina will be opened to foot and car traffic starting this weekend, but not to boats, as repairs continue.

Hempstead Extends Fee Moratorium for Documents

Supervisor Kate Murray and the Hempstead Town Board have extended a temporary moratorium on Town Clerk fees for replacement of important documents like birth certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses and passports for Sandy victims.

Worker Honored for Heroism

A veteran Town of Oyster Bay employee who ran into a burning home and helped save a family was honored for his bravery by the Town Board. Frank Archipolo, a maintenance supervisor for the town, who's been on the job for 41 years came upon the scene of the in Plainview March 10. He was on his way to visit his daughter with his wife.

Waiters Suing Peter Luger Steak House

Peter Luger Steak House in Great Neck is being sued by four former waiters who say the restaurant failed to pay them overtime and minimum wage for work done as far back as 2007, according to a Newsday report. The lawsuit, filed last week in U.S. District Court in Central Islip, alleges the restaurant did not pay the waiters for prep work performed before and after their shifts, for time spent working through breaks and for money deducted from a daily tip pool to pay kitchen workers, according to Newsday.
