McDermott to Resign as Northport-East Northport…

Meet the Candidate: Betsy McGrail

Northport-East Northport Library Board Chairperson running for reelection.

Meet Northport-East Northport Library Board trustee candidate Elizabeth (Betsy) McGrail. McGrail is the incumbent chairperson of the library board and will be running for reelection on Tuesday. She submitted this biography to Patch:

It has been a privilege to serve as a library board member since 1995. There have been many changes during this time. With the community’s help, we erected a new Library building in East Northport; renovated and added onto the Northport building; continue to introduce and offer access to the many
technological advances that exist today. Yes, we still have books, and to enhance your time at the Library, there is a cafe in each building.

I am especially proud of our many patrons who tell us about their appreciation of the Library and our incredible staff. Each and every one of them, from top to bottom, will go the distance, and will also go the extra mile for our patrons.

During the hurricane “Sandy” the East Northport Library had power. In addition, the director supplied the building with power strips for each table outlet, and our staff helped the many (approximately 4000 people per day) who came to the East Northport Public Library.

My husband Herb and I have lived in Northport for fifty years. We continue to be active in our community, our church, Trinity Episcopal in Northport, and with the Boy Scout community. For my leisure time, I sew and make quilts that are donated to cancer patients in various places. And of course, I still read, plus I can also listen to audiobooks while I sew.

Our three children, Cheryl, Herb, and Susan, grew up here, attended the Northport schools, started their married lives, and have given us seven grandchildren.

Voting on the 2013-2014 library budget and on one trustee will be held between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2.
