Pushing Snow Around

The highway department is first out, last in when it comes to clearing snow.

The snow began falling just before 7 p.m., Tuesday.  The Northport Highway Department crew, led by chief Tim Drew, began sanding and paving the roads not long after, keeping the roads passable throughout the night.

They pushed snow out of the roads and on to the sidewalks or in big piles in the road, which then became their own problem for the staff.

The crew is nothing if not resourceful. When a plow on one of the trucks broke, highway department mechanic Joe Cavagnaro welded it back together.

Come morning, the adventurous—and those with snow plows—were able to venture out on to the roads.

It took longer to clear all of the municipal lots but that task was completed by noon.
