Israel Warns LIPA on Storm Response

Rep. Steve Israel: 'We'll be watching' LIPA Sandy response.

As Northport Mayor George Doll stood outside Village Hall surveying the scene while walking through the various issues affecting Northport in the hours after Hurricane Sandy swept through the area, Rep. Steve Israel, D-Dix Hills, strolled up.

Israel was doing his own damage assessment of Northport after making the trek from hard-hit Huntington early Tuesday. The congressman asked Doll what he could do for Northport.

But the answer was painfully obvious. With more than 900,000 customers on Long Island without power, the burden of restoring normalcy falls to Long Island Power Authority to move quickly. 

“This is a real test for LIPA,” Israel said. “There will be no excuses. LIPA during Irene did not perform satisfactorily. They said they got their act together. We’ll be watching.”
