Israel to Meet with Post Office Officials

Congressman, village, town officials meet with USPS reps Friday.

Northport and Huntington officials will meet at Congressman Steve Israel's office on Friday to discuss plans for the Northport Post Office with USPS representatives. The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m.

"They said that they were looking at it as an informational meeting, basically to let us know about what their procedures are for public information and how they proceed on these things," Northport Deputy Mayor Henry Tobin said Wednesday. "We certainly have a lot of information we're looking to get. We want to understand the details of what they expect to get out of any change in their operations."

Northport Trustee Damon McMullen, Deputy Mayor Henry Tobin, Village Attorney Jim Matthews, Town Councilman Mark Cuthbertson, and Congressman Steve Israel will attend the meeting.

Senator Chuck Schumer said he is also doing his part to save the Northport Post Office. Last week he announced that he had achieved an agreement with the Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe to delay any decisions on the Northport Post office, according to a Newsday report. Schumer's office did not specify how long the delay would be.

I hope Mr. Israel remembers my letters to him on how the USPS totally FUBAR'ed my mail forwarding and attempted to scam me into paying $65 a month for their PREMIUM FORWARDING as a resolution. USPS is a buggy whip business in a 21st century. Just wave goodbye and lets get on with more important matters like over-taxation !

CLOSE THE NoPo POST OFFICE! They are SO incredibly slow that I drive right past and go to Centerport to mail my packages. And with the attitudes you get there, the employees seemingly hate their jobs, anyway. If the post office is ever going to lose LESS money than they have been, they need to have the power to get rid of foot-dragging employees. It seems like a postal employee needs to bring a gun to work and start shooting it off to actually get fired. (or is it suspended?)
