Flanagan Wins Sixth Term as Senator

Flanagan cruises to victory and wins his sixth term as senator.

To the surprise of almost no one, state Sen. John Flanagan will have the opportunity serve the second Senate district for his sixth term after a win over Errol Toulon, who stopped his campaign after taking a job with Suffolk County.

Flanagan, R-East Northport, easily sailed into victory, with 69,073 votes at 10:30 p.m.to Toulon's 32,533, according to the Suffolk County Board of Elections, as more districts report in.

Toulon, who lost a bid in 2009 to John M. Kennedy Jr. to represent Suffolk County's 12 Lesiglative District, was appointed to Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone's administration, overseeing the creation of a Traffic Violations Bureau. Toulan's late departure out of the race made it impossible for another Democrat to be put on the ticket.

Flanagan, 51 was elected in 2002, is currently the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Education.

The Senator also serves on the Committees on Codes; Corporations, Authorities and Commissions; Finance; Higher Education; Insurance;  Judiciary and Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs.

Flanagan, a father of three, resides in East Northport with his wife Lisa.

Thank you for allowing puppy mills to continue abusing and neglecting animals so a few retail pet stores can sell their offspring under the Republican free market banner. You know about the abuse and the pet store/puppy mill connection. You have spoken to concerned citizens and completely disregarded them for a few dollars from the pet industry of all things. It is the same as dogfighting and unfortunately not enough people are aware of what's the behind the pet store puppy. I certainly hope Dems win the senate majority for S1262A alone. I hope the 32% that voted for your challenger in name only is a message.

Oh please! Toulan dropped out of the election nearly a month ago to accept a county position. There was no win, there was no race... there was no opposing candidate. Even a "non-candidate" got nearly 1/2 as many votes as Flanagan. Hardly a stamp of approval and surely nothing to get all giddy about. Flanagan has been bought by Mayor Bloomberg. If that makes you happy then carry on with your cheers and praise. bleh
