Flanagan Not Running for Supervisor

Republican decides to stay in State Senate.

State Sen. John Flanagan has decided not to run for town supervisor, Newsday reported Saturday.

Flanagan, a Republican, had said last month that he was thinking about running against Town Supervisor Frank Petrone, a Democrat.

"I feel that I can continue to strongly represent the interests of Huntington, Smithtown, Brookhaven and all Long Island residents by being in Albany, particularly as the Chair of the Education Committee," Flanagan said in a statement to Newsday.

"I look forward to that ongoing opportunity and very much appreciate the support of the residents of the second Senate district."

His office did not return calls to Patch Friday about his possible candidacy.
