The annual Blessing of the Fleet took place on Saturday at the .

According to the Villageofnorthport.com, the colorful parade of vessels of all shapes and sizes and its pageantry  marks the official opening of the boating season. It's a tradition that some  believe "originated in the seafaring countries of southern Europe."

As boats  pass by the Village Dock, they are blessed by clergy to insure safe passage on the waters for  themselves, their passengers and their worthy vessels.

For the first time, the Blessing of the Fleet was coupled with a nautical flea market. Music was provided by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxilary, Fort Salonga Flotilla.
