Woman Airlifted After E. Northport Car Accident

Lucy DiPietro was leaving Best Buy shopping center when she was struck by another car, say police.

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a two-car crash that critically injured a Smithtown woman in East Northport Friday night.

Lucy DiPietro, driving a 2004 Buick, was leaving the Best Buy shopping center located at 3124 Jericho Turnpike when her vehicle was struck by an eastbound 2011 Mazda in the left lane at 6:07 p.m.

DiPietro, 71, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Mazda, Jessica Rinn, 23, and DiPietro’s husband, Matthew, 76, were both transported to Huntington Hospital. Matthew DiPietro was listed in critical condition and Rinn was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
