Update: Wednesday Morning Fire on Wheeler Place

Home unoccupied at time, two pets in basement.

Update, Wednesday 7 p.m.

The home at 8 Wheeler Place belonging to the Breidenbach family, owners of the Northport Harbor Deli, was unoccupied when a fire broke out at approximately 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, said East Northport Fire Department officials.

A bedroom and living room spanning two floors of the home caught fire and was brought under control in about an hour. The cause is unknown at this time. The Town Fire Marshall and the Suffolk Police Arson Squad responded to the fire for procedural reasons.

Two dogs were reportedly in the basement at the time, and it is unknown if they perished in the fire.

East Northport Fire Department officials are on the scene of a fire at 8 Wheeler Place in Northport near the intersection of 25A and Laurel Avenue.

The fire occurred around 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday. The address is within the Northport zipcode but handled by East Northport.

People are reporting multiple fire trucks at the home.
