Have we gotten so low as a society that we are voting on "top" fires of 2011? Ask the victims of these fires if they think their misfortune is worth the number one trophy spot. Small town news...if there isn't any to write, then don't write it.

Hi Rob, I see where you're coming from but I think of it more as highlighting the work that the fire departments have done.
Jess January 01, 2012 at 05:18 PM
I understand the Patch is trying to highlight the work of our police and fire departments, however, I agree with Rob. Perhaps the wording of the article could have been in better taste. How can one vote on a "top" story where someone DIED??

I also understand the concept of reviewing the efforts of our first responders, but the way the. Title is displayed is weird and should be looked over. "tragic accidents of 2011" or "serious incidents of 2011"
Leah Bush (Editor) January 02, 2012 at 03:31 AM
Hi Bart, it would have been weird regardless of how I phrased it. I don't think voting on the "top" tragic accident of 2011 would have been apropos either a. because is not only comprised of accidents, and b. because people would think strangely on voting on that topic as well. Perhaps I should have just left the poll off altogether as I do agree that it may seem somewhat morbid.
Paul Kemp January 03, 2012 at 08:14 PM
The poll is morbid and in poor taste.
