Two E. Northport Parks Vandalized

John J Walsh Park and Veterans Memorial Park were vandalized in a recent rash of vandalism in Huntington parks.

A rash of vandalism and destruction is sweeping Huntington's parks. Ten recently planted trees were knocked over and three pulled out of the ground at on Saturday and both bathrooms at were vandalized with graffiti on Wednesday, Suffolk Police said Friday.

These were the latest incidents in a wanton campaign of destruction that began with damage to property in the men's bathroom of Heckscher Park on Oct. 14. The following day, similar damage was done to the men’s bathroom at Mill Dam Park in Halesite, and between the evening of Oct. 23 and the early morning of Oct. 24 someone vandalized both the men’s and women’s bathrooms as well as the playground at Wolf Hill Park. During the evening of Oct. 29 four sinks and toilets in the women’s restroom in Heckscher Park were damaged.

Crime Stoppers and the Suffolk County Police Second Precinct Detective Squad are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating the person(s) responsible for criminal mischief in area parks.
