Firefighters Rescue Woman from Drug Overdose

A 21-year-old was saved Aug. 29 due to the Suffolk County Police Department's Narcan program.

Northport police were called to Laurel Avenue around 5 p.m. Aug. 29 to find an unconscious 21-year-old woman struggling to breathe. 

According to a police report, the Northport Fire Department provided rescue breathing equipment, monitored her pulse and administered Narcan, which reverses the effects of a heroin or other opiates, to the woman. She regained consciousness and was transported to Huntington Hospital via Northport Rescue. 

Suffolk County Police Department also responded to the scene.
