Northport VA Volunteer's Scooter Stolen

Police: Motorized chair stolen from Vietnam veteran's Central Islip home.

A disabled Vietnam veteran who volunteers at the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center had his motorized chair stolen from his Central Islip home, Suffolk County Police said. 

Police did not identify the 59-year-old man, but said the veteran used the scooter to get from his Bushwick Ave. home to the bus stop.

The Blue Champion 3 Scooter, valued at $1,800, was taken Sunday between 1-7 p.m., police said. 

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-220-TIPS.

What a terrible shame! I can only hope whoever did this is rapidly apprehended.

When caught, the "perp" should be required to push the veteran in a regular wheel chair, anywhere he wants to go, 5 days a week for a full year. No time off for good behavior. Add time for bad behavior!!!!! (Vet picks the days)
