Northport Police Report: Dipping and Ducking; Stolen Mailbox

Arrests and incidents, July 30- Aug. 5.

The following arrests and incidents were reported by the Northport Police Department between July 30 and Aug. 5.

  • Teens reportedly took a dip in someone's pool overnight on Clipper Drive July 29, helping themselves to some iced teas from the backyard fridge and knocking over Tiki torches in the process. Nothing was damaged or broken.
  • A Northport man, 40, was arrested on Scudder Avenue and charged with second degree criminal trespass and second degree harassment on Aug. 3.
  • An East Northport man, 23, was arrested and charged with second degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a broken headlight, no insurance, and criminal possession of a forged license on Aug. 4. He was allegedly in possession of a forged drivers license and driving while his license was suspended on two occasions.
  • A Northport man was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle after he allegedly tried to break into a car. The man told police officers

The man told police officers he was trying to help "Michelle" move her car because the battery died. After running the car's registration in the DMV database, it was determined not to belong to a "Michelle." The car's registered owner walked up to the scene and said he has no idea who the man is nor did he have any permission or authority to gain access to or use the car.
  • A Northport man, 38, was arrested after a traffic stop on Woodbine Avenue Aug. 4 when he failed to maintain his lane. As the police officer pulled him over, the man jumped the curb and stopped on the sidewalk. Upon further investigation, the man was found to be intoxicated and was placed under arrest. He refused a breath test at headquarters and requested a Spanish translator. A Spanish translator from the Suffolk County Police came to Northport HQ and asked him if he would take the test, but he again refused. He was charged with DWI, no insurance, failure to maintain lane, equipment (obstructed view), and failure to keep right. 
  • A Central Islip man, 32, was arrested on Reservoir Avenue Aug. 5 and charged with unlicensed operation, aggravated unlicensed operation, and unreasonable speed.    
  • Police responded to a report of a female acting strange within her car on Fort Salonga Road July 31. Upon arrival the undersigned searched the area but was unable to locate the vehicle or subject.
  • Police found a group of teens walking down Fort Salonga Road with a stolen mailbox and two traffic cones following a report that they had knocked down a mailbox on Aug. 2. They were temporarily detained and released after they returned the property. The property owner did not wish to press any charges.
  • A police officer responded to Valley Road Aug. 3 around 5:30 a.m. for the report of an unconscious male. Upon arrival, the officer observed the man sleeping on the side of the road. Upon interviewing the man, it was determined that he had decided to take a nap while heading to his aunt's house. The officer advised him to sleep in a safer location. 
  • A woman reported losing her iPhone 5 near a location on Main Street July 30. She returned that evening as she tracked it through Find iPhone and could hear the phone pinging from one of the apartments. The woman also received a call from her number and has knocked on both apartment doors and no one was home. The officer left a voice message with both occupants.
